Rare Review - Pokiri Pokkiri Wanted Porki by Harith V H

This Review is from My Friend Harith Software Engineer by Profession, But after reading it you tell him what he can be....
Its been a rare incident now a days that I sat for reviews, reasoning may bring boring effect,  so I almost kinda lost the best times that were cherished with making reviews, which I seldom make now-a-days but reads whenever I gets a gap, so among those one of the review[I] by churumuri made me think of writing something like this. Yep this is about movies, rather this time each is in various languages. The above said review made me to rethink about the pokiri movies span into various languages during the last four years.

The pokiri series indicates the Telugu original Pokiri and its various adapted translations in other languages such as Pokkiri [in Tamizh], Wanted [in Hindi] and Porki [in Kannada] chronologically in the order they were released. The original film released in 2006 did left a benchmark with superb performance from Mahesh Babu who defined how powerful the running activity in a movie, ever since I’ve seen so many stars tries to have a scene that they are running, in effect that it shows it shows how badly it can be.
The Tamizh version came the next year Vijay in lead with some changes in the script and four new tracks from Manisharma, along with earlier tracks such as Dole Dole.. , Ippatikaina.., Jagadame.. and other background themes. The following artists reprised their role as that in the original.

Artist 1 as roudy-1 who molest the heroine
Artist 2 as roudy-2 who molest the heroine
in their respective roles, probably this will be the Tamizh remake  which holds maximum no/ next to maximum . of repeat cast or next to Jayam, another Tamizh movie holds the record. The Hindi version [third one] came in 2009, starring Salman Khan under the direction of Prabhudeva who also helmed the Tamizh version, the third one also retained some of the cast of the original such as Prakash Raj and G V Sudhakar Naidu in their respective roles, which the made former to have second hat-trick in doing a character; earlier was in Okkadu. The fourth version in Kannada came in 2010 with Darshan in the lead close to heals of original but has more identity in the craft, retains one (Dole Dole ..) of the original tracks from Manisharma.

So the original Telugu version already made greatest marks by running more than a year – that’s what the posters speak, however that’s one such movie which has that kinda caliber. The greatest strength of the movie was its hero Mahesh Babu – one of reviews (in idlebrain.com) its been said as follows: "Mahesh Babu’s performance in Pokiri itself is worth your ticket and the rest is bonus". On to the other departments Marthand K Venkatesh excels with editing which aids the direction, songs, and stunt choreography.

So, hero wise rating I could rate Salman Khan as worst of all – as he was giving some expressions like a mentally retarded in some dramatic scenes – one such when the heroine comes to thank the hero, the scene in which Mahesh Babu and Vijay acted with ease and Darshan excelled.
In some other scenes Darshan gets weak – one such when the local Sub-Inspector comes to threaten the hero in the basket ball court – where Salman gave a good performance and Vijay did better but only with additional dialogues and actions than of the original where Mahesh Babu shines.
In the lift scene Salman stands second to Mahesh where Vijay could not do much even with the elongated scenes and too serious Asin was a draw back, however Kannada version is the worst of all.
In the hospital scene Vijay stands next to Mahesh Babu, Darshan comes next and Salman gave the worst
In train fight scene – where Mahesh Babu talks with eyes, Vijay tried imitate the same so as Salman but could not reach anywhere,  Darshan’s was also same but in a minor scale.
In the railway station scene – where heroine gives food to hero – Mahesh shown how he can enact style in dramatic scenes – Vijay stands next, about Salman and Darshan there is nothing to talk about
In the pub scene where hero meets the villain – Darshan stands next to Mahesh with good dialog delivery and Salman also did good and Vijay reached his acting limit beyond he becomes expressionless.
In the burial ground scene where hero talks to Sub Inspector inside police vehicle – Darshan gave the best, Mahesh stands next, Salman was just okay and Vijay was weak.

On direction-wise all the versions had good works behind them - of course Puri Jaganath’s was so special – with well etched introduction of hero, something which others could not work out the same way and so the final scenes – where Salman stands out with his body, which other heroes never had. In the introduction fight Telugu stands with never seen best editing and Kannada version stands out with best fight enact by Darshan – Prabudeva is a bit weak on that part. On to the songs Puri Jaganath did a neat job using beautiful mixing of scenes with excellent editing by Marthand – some thing which Prabhudeva could not apply where he filled with dance sequences (all of them were wonderfully done by Vijay) – but at the end the Dole Dole..  was disappointing with Asin and Vijay pair in Tamizh. In Kannada too Dole Dole was hopeless where Darshan tried to become Mahesh and failed miserably – apart from that Kannada version tried to keep a local identity with the hero’s attire, style and with train-fight which was done in a Mysore train – because Bangalore does not has local trains – where as in Tamizh version Vijay runs to a train in Nungambakkam and gets into a train runs in Hyderabad/Secunderabad, so far no such trains ever ran in Chennai. Hindi version did not had that problem as that is Mumbai. So all the other train scenes of original where taken in low-floor AC buses in the Kannada version. The biggest drawback of the Kannada version is the comedy track – even though it’s a scene to scene take of original – its too unbearable, Tamizh and Hindi were comparatively better on that front.  

On to the heroines, Illeana was the best – with charm, style and glamour – of course she was a bit weak on some of emotional scenes, on the other side very good on the romantic scenes and emotional ones in Telugu. In the Tamizh version if there is a big drawback compared to that of the original that was Asin’s casting – she’s was bit too serious for the character, which not so – but very good in emotional scenes, and made the glamour content of the movie to be zero. Pranita was okay in the Kannada version – and incidentally excelled in proposing scene. Ayesha Takia of the Hindi version was the worst of all. 

On to the Sub Inspector role – Ashish Vidyarthi excelled in Telugu, the Tamizh version enacted Mukesh Tiwari (Gangajal fame) could not live up to the level so as the Hindi version by Mahesh Manjrekar and Shobaraj in Kannada version gave the best.

On the Commissioner role - Sayaji Sinde of Telugu Govind Namdeo (Satya fame) of Hindi excelled, Devaraj of Kannada stands next and Napolean of Tamizh was okay.

On to father role of hero – Nasser is the best who enacted in Original and Tamizh, Vinod Khanna of Hindi and Avinash of Kannda stands respectively.

On to the Main Villain – Prakash Raj, undoubtedly excelled; who enacted in the Original, Tamizh and Hindi, where Ashish Vidyarthi did the Kannada version could not bring the sharpness of former but excelled in enacting dialog delivery than the original – of course he’s unquestionably one of the best.

On movie-wise ranking of-course Telugu is undoubtedly, unquestionably the best, next comes the Tamizh then the Kannada version and as of now the last will be Hindi version.

All the versions became commercially audible during their times, and so naturally lot of comparisons did arise in the reviews – some which I mentioned one by chirumuri above – after going thru all that and some of reviews[II] about the latest version Porki[III] – I felt like scripting some lines on it or rather make a review – and so this is it.
